Arizona Border County Chairs Reject False Border "Emergency" and Focus on Real Community Needs

[SantaCruz, January 20, 2025] – The Democratic Party County Chairs on the Arizona border are united in rejecting the false narrative of a border “emergency” that President Trump is using to manipulate public fear and push his dangerous agenda. While challenges exist at the border, these issues are being exploited by Trump and his allies to distract from real, pressing problems that our communities face.

“What our communities truly need are good-paying jobs, fully funded public schools, and access to affordable healthcare,” said Eric Robbins, Pima County Chair. “These are the issues that will improve lives and strengthen our families, not a manufactured crisis designed to divide us.”

The County Chairs are calling for the re-election of Democratic leaders who have fought for policies that support working families, immigrants, and vulnerable communities. These leaders are seen as a critical last line of defense against Trump’s efforts to push a harmful and racist agenda that threatens the values of justice, equality, and compassion.

“Our Democratic representatives have stood firm against attacks on our communities, and it’s more important than ever that we keep them in office,” said Theresa Walsh, Cochise County Chair. “The stakes are high. We need leaders who will prioritize real solutions over political games.”

While President Trump continues to use fear and division for personal gain, the local leaders are committed to staying focused on policies that uplift communities. The so-called "border emergency" is seen as a distraction from the real work of building a more inclusive, fair, and safe future for all families.

“We will not be silent in the face of divisive rhetoric. We must support our neighbors and families and work together for a future where love and opportunity thrive,” said Francis Glad, Santa Cruz County Chair.

The County Chairs remain focused on policies that address the real needs of their communities—good jobs, education, and healthcare.

“We are not interested in political games at the cost of our communities. We are interested in providing the resources and solutions that families need to thrive,” said Xanthe Bullard, Yuma County Chairwoman.  “It’s time to prioritize what really matters—for all.”

"The Arizona Democratic Party County Committees are fundamental to the overall administration of our organization. Without each of our 15 counties we would not be a great state party. Together we rise to the obstacles our time; we look forward to living in a state where our shared values are reflected in our laws and all our communities. Thank you to all of you who volunteer your time, energy, and resources to turn this state blue. We can do this!"
